One installer, one machine, no moving parts

Plate Software is a desktop application, not a browser tab. It installs on the computer you print from, finds the printers Windows already knows about, and keeps your designs, templates and calibration on your own machine.

What the installer sets up

Everything below is part of the application itself. Which design workspaces open depends on your tier, and nothing else about the install changes.

  • The Core road-use plate designer, complete
  • The Show Plate and Sign workspaces on Essential
  • Printer discovery and saved printer profiles
  • The full calibration wizard
  • The plate template library
  • Saving and reopening projects locally
  • Your outlet name and British Standard marking
  • One Production Licence, ready to activate

Your projects, templates, printer profiles and calibration values live on your own machine. If a subscription ends they are not deleted, disabled or withheld — what stops is new production output.

Get the installer

The public installer is not posted yet. Email us and we will send you the build and a short setup note as soon as it is ready — and sooner if you can tell us which printer you use, because that helps us prioritise profiles.

Licensing

A Production Licence covers one printing computer and belongs to your business, not to a named employee. Add more at any time without changing tier.

01Requirements

What you need to run it

Operating system
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
Disk space
Approximately 400 MB
Memory
4 GB minimum, 8 GB recommended
Display
1280 x 800 or larger
Printer
Any Windows printer, including thermal and laser or LED
Internet
Needed to activate and to refresh entitlement periodically
Other software
None. No browser, runtime or local server required

About macOS

The tier and the licence are identical on Windows and macOS, and the platform never changes the price. We will not advertise macOS support for a particular printer until that printer and driver combination has actually been tested, because “every printer is Mac compatible” is not a claim anyone can honestly make.

About your printer

Plate Software discovers the printers already installed on the machine and keeps a saved profile for each. If you are unsure whether your setup is supported, tell us what you run and we will give you a straight answer before you spend any time on it.

Ask about your printer

02Before you install

The questions we get asked most

What do I need before I install?

A 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 machine with the printer you produce on already installed. Plate Software finds the printers Windows already knows about, so there is no separate driver to fetch and no local server to run.

Does it have to be the computer I print from?

For production, yes. A Production Licence permits one computer to create final printable output, so install it on the machine attached to your printer. You can design on another machine and finish the job on the licensed one.

How long does setup take?

Installing takes a couple of minutes. Adding your outlet name, postcode and British Standard marking takes another few, and the calibration wizard needs one test sheet against a blank you actually use. After that you are producing.

What happens if I move to a new computer?

Activate the new computer with your key and stop using the old one. There is no deactivation step because nothing reports back to us — the key simply works wherever it is pasted, until it expires. Keeping to the number of Production Licences you have paid for is your side of the agreement rather than something the software enforces.
