Calibrating output

Getting position and scale right, and keeping them right.

Why it matters

Printers do not place the image in exactly the same position, and media varies between batches. Calibration reconciles what the software intends with what your printer actually does.

Calibrate per profile. A calibration that is correct for one printer and one media is not correct for another.

Running the wizard

  1. Open Print setup, choose the profile, and start the calibration wizard.
  2. Print the test sheet on the media you will actually use.
  3. Measure the printed reference marks as the wizard asks.
  4. Enter the measurements to set the X and Y offsets.
  5. Check the scale measurement and adjust if the printed size differs from the intended size.
  6. Print the test sheet again and confirm it now lands correctly.

When to do it again

After a printer service or head replacement. When you change media supplier or batch. If output starts drifting. After any driver update that changes how the printer handles page size.

Worth knowing. Calibrate on the real media. A test on plain paper will not tell you the truth about a plate blank.
